Anne L. Pressley

Anne L. Pressley married in 1959, and by 1966 was a mother of five small children; a woman armed with an excellent education, ambition, and the knowledge that she could still make a difference.  We, her children, experienced a feminist who took all of us with her on anti-Vietnam War and women’s liberation marches.  We helped with advocacy to pass the equal rights amendment.  Our mother was an active participant in the League of Women Voters and spent hours researching and recommending changes to the juvenile justice system.  She also volunteered in our community and schools.  We don’t recall a time when Mom was not the Scout leader or room parent – always focusing her energy on educating children.

In spite of having five kids at home, she pursued her Masters degree in special education at night and once that degree was obtained,  taught high-needs children in public schools.  Her daughters acknowledged her commitment to education by wearing her graduation gown to their own graduations.  She taught us that a woman can pursue many different goals. She taught us about compassion, empathy and generosity through her words and her actions.

Anne and her husband Bob just observed their 50th wedding anniversary with all of their children, in-laws, and grandchildren celebrating together.
