Fourth Board Chair Global Fund for Women

Hope is a Ugandan living in Zimbabwe. She suffered many tragedies in her life, losing family and friends to AIDS. She is a writer and consultant on women’s issues across Sub-Saharan Africa. She founded Zimbabwe Women’s Resource Centre and Network (ZWRCN), a Global Fund grantee.

During her tenure as a Global Fund Board member and Chair, she insisted that the problems of women in Africa could only be fully understood by a visit to Africa. Consequently, board and staff journeyed to the continent in 1997, resulting in an increase in grants from 10% to 20% within two years of the visit.

Hope’s son, Simukai, following in his mother’s footsteps to work on behalf of women’s rights, interned at the Global Fund during the summer of 2007, while attending medical school in Great Britain.
