Lisa Jean Niebauer, Esq.

Born: January 14, 1956 - North Platte, NE.
Died: October 29, 2006, San Francisco, CA.

One of the first things I realized about Lisa, after we became lovers, was that she was the bravest woman I’d ever met.  It wasn’t just the memory of Lisa crawling to the bow of our sloop during gale force winds with waves breaking over the boat to take down the sails.  Or the fact that she ran for Congress, braved corporate America , and dedicated herself to At-Risk-Youth.  Or the way she battled ovarian cancer for four years with courage and grace, (during which time she completed law school and passed the CA Bar).

It was about her being her word, always.
And speaking truth to power.
And always giving more than she had.

It was about her un-relentless discipline, compassion and generosity.

Lisa always said that there’s no such thing as death.  Maybe this is true.

It’s been three years since Lisa passed.  Through this profound loss I'm still in awe of her and love her as much today as the day we fell in love.

Lisa was an activist, a feminist, a lesbian, a mother, a beloved aunt, sister and friend, and she was the love of my life.  Lisa would be so proud to have her name on the Women's Building.
